At Rui Diving Centre, the course focuses on practical dry suit skills for Ontario and Canadian diving, including proper dry suit setup, buoyancy control, weighting, trim, air management, emergency procedures, and cold-water preparation.

Your training is supervised by an experienced PADI Course Director with nearly 20 years of continuous diving experience and over 10 years of teaching experience.

With extensive experience in recreational diving, technical diving, sidemount diving, Ontario cold-water diving, tropical diving, and underwater emergency management, your instructor brings practical knowledge to every stage of the course.

Drysuit diving requires more than simply wearing a different suit. It involves different buoyancy techniques, air management inside the suit, proper weighting and trim, valve use, and specific emergency procedures.

Throughout the course, your instructor will provide personalized coaching, demonstrations, and technique correction to help you develop safe and comfortable dry suit habits from the beginning.

Prerequisites to Join the Course

To enroll in the PADI Dry Suit Diver course, students must:

• Meet the applicable minimum age requirement
• Hold a qualifying scuba certification
• Have basic scuba diving skills
• Be comfortable in the water
• Be medically fit for scuba diving
• Complete the required PADI medical and course documents
• Meet all applicable PADI course requirements

This course is designed for certified scuba divers who want to develop dry suit diving skills.

Course Completion Requirements

The PADI Dry Suit Diver course is performance-based. Students must demonstrate the required knowledge and skills rather than simply attending the scheduled sessions.

Students must successfully complete the applicable:

• Knowledge development
• Confined-water dry suit training
• Two open-water training dives
• Dry suit donning and doffing procedures
• Proper weighting and trim
• Dry suit buoyancy control
• Dry suit inflation and deflation techniques
• Controlled ascents and descents
• Air management inside the dry suit
• Dry suit emergency procedures
• Applicable PADI performance requirements

The instructor has the final decision regarding student progression and certification based on the applicable PADI standards and the student’s demonstrated performance.

Completion of the scheduled sessions does not automatically guarantee certification.

Course Session Details

Session 1: Theory + Confined-Water Dry Suit Training

The first session combines knowledge development with practical dry suit training in confined or shallow water.

Students will learn and practice the fundamentals of dry suit diving, including:

• Dry suit types, components, and basic setup
• Proper dry suit preparation
• Putting on and removing a dry suit
• Proper use of dry suit valves
• Undergarments and thermal protection
• Weighting and trim
• Buoyancy control using the dry suit
• Inflation and deflation techniques
• Air management inside the suit
• Basic dry suit emergency procedures

The confined-water session provides a controlled environment for students to become familiar with dry suit equipment and develop the skills needed before moving into open water.

Sessions 2–3: Open-Water Training

2 Open-Water Dives

After completing the required theory and confined-water training, students will complete two open-water training dives using a dry suit.

The open-water sessions allow students to apply the skills learned during the confined-water training in a real diving environment.

Training may include:

• Dry suit buoyancy control
• Weight and trim adjustments
• Controlled descents and ascents
• Managing air inside the dry suit
• Normal dry suit diving procedures
• Dry suit emergency and safety procedures

The exact dive location and schedule depend on student readiness, instructor availability, weather, water conditions, and dive-site availability.

Equipment Needed

Included with the Course

The $599 + HST course fee includes the rental of:

• Dry suit
• Dry suit undergarments

The included dry suit and undergarments are provided for the scheduled course sessions and are subject to availability and proper fit.

Other Scuba Equipment

All other scuba equipment is not included in the course fee.

Students are responsible for providing or separately renting any additional equipment they need, including:

• BCD
• Regulator
• Scuba mask
• Fins
• Dive computer
• Weight belt with appropriate weights
• Tanks
• Any other personal diving equipment required for the course

Additional scuba equipment rentals are available from Rui Diving Centre for an additional fee, subject to availability.

Students may use their own equipment, provided that it is properly fitted, suitable for the course and diving environment, and in safe working condition.

Students are responsible for the transportation, pickup, loading, unloading, handling, and safekeeping of their personal and rented equipment.

If additional equipment is rented from Rui Diving Centre, students are responsible for:

• Picking up the equipment from the store
• Transporting the equipment to and from the training location
• Loading and unloading the equipment
• Returning the equipment to the store after use
• Properly handling and caring for the equipment while it is in their possession

Rui Diving Centre and the instructor do not provide transportation, delivery, loading, unloading, or personal equipment handling services unless specifically arranged and agreed upon in advance.

Students are responsible for returning rented equipment on time and in the same condition in which it was provided, subject to normal wear and tear.

Rui Diving Centre and the instructor are not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to personal equipment except where liability cannot legally be excluded.

Course Validity

The course is valid for one year from the date of registration.

Students must complete the required knowledge development, confined-water training, open-water dives, and certification requirements within this period.

Any incomplete portion of the course expires after one year, and fees already paid are non-refundable.

To continue after the course expires, the student must re-register under the pricing, standards, and requirements in effect at that time.

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy

No Refunds, Transfers or Exchanges

Once registration and payment are completed, all course fees are non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-exchangeable.

Fees cannot be:

• Transferred to another person
• Applied to another course
• Exchanged for merchandise
• Converted to gift cards
• Converted to store credit
• Converted to account credit

Students should confirm their availability, certification prerequisites, medical fitness, equipment requirements, and ability to meet the course requirements before registering.

Complimentary Rescheduling

Rescheduling without a fee may be provided when the course cannot safely proceed due to:

• A medical reason
• Extreme weather
• Unsafe water conditions
• Unexpected pool or training facility closure
• Dive-site closure or access restrictions
• Another safety issue determined by Rui Diving Centre or the instructor

Supporting documentation may be requested when appropriate.

Complimentary rescheduling does not create a right to a refund.

Replacement dates depend on instructor, facility, weather, seasonal, site, and space availability.

$99 + HST Rescheduling Fee

A $99 + HST rescheduling fee applies when a student requests a schedule change for reasons that are not considered an unavoidable emergency or safety-related cancellation.

This includes:

• A schedule change requested within 48 hours of a scheduled session
• Late arrival or absence without sufficient notice
• Work or personal scheduling conflicts
• Transportation problems
• Travel plans
• Non-emergency personal reasons
• Required course documents being incomplete
• Required medical clearance not being obtained
• Required personal equipment being missing or unsuitable
• Personal scuba equipment not being ready or functional for the scheduled training

The rescheduling fee must be paid before a replacement session is confirmed.

Payment of a rescheduling fee does not guarantee a particular replacement date or time.

A rescheduling fee does not extend the original one-year course validity.

Important Course Information

Drysuit diving requires additional buoyancy-management skills compared with wetsuit diving.

Students are expected to follow instructor directions and applicable PADI safety procedures throughout the course.

The instructor may postpone, modify, shorten, or terminate a training session or dive whenever they determine that continuing would present an unacceptable safety risk.

Training may be adjusted based on:

• Student experience and skill level
• Student comfort
• Equipment
• Weather
• Water conditions
• Dive-site conditions
• Instructor availability
• Seasonal conditions
