Advantages of the Dry Suit Course:
Access dive sites that other divers can’t reach
Stay warm and dry underwater
Enjoy a longer diving season
In fact, a large portion of the underwater world consists of cold-water environments, which have their own unique ecosystems. Cold water also often offers clearer visibility. That’s why dry suit diving is considered an essential skill in a diver’s journey.
During the course, you’ll experience something different from regular wetsuit diving. A dry suit is filled with air, so if you’re used to controlling buoyancy with a BCD while wearing a wetsuit, you’ll need to adjust your mindset slightly.
If you are a beginner, you can actually take this course together with your Open Water certification and learn dry suit skills from the very start. Once you become proficient, you’ll unlock access to more dive destinations, such as:
Scotland – Home to the world-famous Scapa Flow and one of the best places to dive with unique shark species
Iceland – Dive between two continents
Antarctica – No explanation needed
Vancouver – The home of seals
You can learn how to dive in a dry suit in just 1–3 days.
The PADI Dry Suit Diver Specialty Course begins with practice in a pool or pool-like environment. You’ll learn how to add and release air from the suit, adjust buoyancy, and control the air inside the dry suit.
Once you’re ready, you’ll complete two open water dives with your instructor. Most students finish the course within 1–3 days.
A Highly Valuable Diving Course
Without naming names, some specialty courses are fun but not absolutely necessary. However, the dry suit diver course is not one of them.
The PADI Dry Suit Diver Specialty teaches essential safety skills. No one should dive in a dry suit without proper training.
The course also covers basic maintenance and care. So whether you’re considering buying a dry suit or just want to see if dry suit diving suits you, this course offers excellent value.
