The AIDA 2 Freediver Course is designed for students who want to develop proper freediving technique, equalization, relaxation, breath-hold control, and safety skills, and progress from pool training to open-water freediving.

Learn with an Experienced Freediving Instructor

Your training is led by an experienced diving professional with nearly 20 years of continuous diving experience and over 10 years of teaching experience.

As a freediving instructor, Mermaid Instructor Trainer, and experienced technical diver, your instructor brings extensive knowledge and experience across different diving disciplines, including breath control, equalization, water comfort, underwater awareness, and diving safety.

At RDC, the focus is not only on depth performance, but also on helping students develop proper technique, confidence, relaxation, and long-term safety awareness in the water.

Throughout the course, your instructor will provide direct coaching, demonstrations, and practical feedback based on your individual progress, helping you build the skills and confidence needed to progress safely from pool training to open water.

Course Price

$799 CAD + HST

The course fee includes:

• 2 theory + confined-water pool training sessions

• 2 Friday Pan Am deep-pool sessions

• 2 half-day open-water sessions

• Direct instructor coaching and supervision

• Freediving safety and rescue training

Personal freediving equipment, transportation, parking, additional practice or re-evaluation are not included. Students are responsible for providing all equipment required for training. Required equipment may be purchased separately from Rui Diving Centre if needed.

Prerequisites to Join the Course

• Be healthy and at least 18 years old 

• Be able to swim at least 200m

• Complete any required medical statement or physician clearance before in-water training

• Have or obtain the required personal freediving equipment

Previous freediving or scuba certification is not necessarily required. However, students should be comfortable in the water and able to safely participate in breath-hold training.

Course Completion Requirements

• STA 2:00

• DYNB: 40m Horizontal Swim

• Open Water CWTB depth requirement: 12m (With good and comfortable technique), Maximum 20m.

• Open Water 10m Blackout/LMC rescues & Pool BO/LMC rescues with correct Buddy procedures

Training Session Details

The course is completed progressively through four main training stages, followed by the open-water evaluation.

Session 1–2: Theory + Confined-Water Pool Training

2 evening sessions | Weekdays or weekends

The first two sessions combine theory with confined-water training.

Topics may include:

• Freediving physiology and basic pressure concepts

• Breathing and relaxation techniques

• Equalization fundamentals

• Static apnea

• Dynamic apnea

• Finning and body positioning

• Duck diving and descent technique

• Freediving safety and buddy procedures

• Basic rescue skills

Students must complete the required theory and confined-water training before progressing to the deeper Pan Am sessions.

Session 3–4: UTSC Pan Am Deep-Pool Training

2 Friday sessions | Included in course fee

After completing the initial theory and pool training, students will attend two Friday sessions at Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.

The 5m pool provides a deeper environment for students to continue practicing and developing the skills they learned during their initial pool training before progressing to open water.

Two Pan Am sessions are included in the course fee.

Students who would like additional practice at Pan Am before their open-water evaluation may purchase a Pan Am day pass separately. Additional practice is subject to instructor, facility, and space availability.

Open-Water Session

Once the instructor determines that the student is ready for open water, the student will complete two half-day open-water evaluation sessions in the Toronto area.

Students may choose shore diving or boat diving, depending on availability, conditions, and instructor arrangements.

The open-water sessions are used to evaluate the skills and requirements outlined in the Course Completion Requirements section and determine whether the student is ready for AIDA 2 certification.

The exact date, location, and diving format are subject to weather, water conditions, site or boat availability, and instructor scheduling.

Equipment Needed

Personal Equipment Required

Students are responsible for providing their own personal freediving equipment.

Personal equipment is not included and is not available for rental through this course.

You will need:

• Freediving mask

• Freediving snorkel

• Freediving fins

• Wetsuit suitable for the environment and water temperature

• Freediving weight belt with appropriate weights

• Dive socks or boots

• Any other personal equipment required for the course

For local training, a 3–5 mm wetsuit may be appropriate depending on water temperature and individual needs.

All equipment must fit properly, be in good condition, and be suitable for the training environment. The instructor may refuse participation if required equipment is missing, unsuitable, damaged, or unsafe.

Personal Equipment Responsibility

Students are responsible for the transportation, delivery, pickup, loading, unloading, handling, and safekeeping of their personal equipment.

Rui Diving Centre and the instructor are not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to personal equipment except where liability cannot legally be excluded.

If You Did Not Pass the AIDA 2 Evaluation

Freediving progression is different for every student.

If the AIDA 2 requirements are not met during the included open-water evaluation, additional training and/or re-evaluation may be required.

Open-Water Re-evaluation

$299 + HST

The next evaluation will reassess the required 12m AIDA 2 minimum depth performance, together with any other applicable skills identified by the instructor.

Additional training may be recommended before re-evaluation if the instructor determines that more practice is required.

Re-evaluation dates and locations are subject to instructor, weather, water, site, boat, and space availability.

Course Validity

The course is valid for one year from the date of registration.

Students must complete the required theory, confined-water training, open-water evaluation within this period.

Any incomplete portion of the course expires after one year, and fees already paid are non-refundable.

To continue after the course expires, the student must re-register under the pricing, standards, and requirements in effect at that time.

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy

No Refunds, Transfers or Exchanges

Once registration and payment are completed, all course fees are non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-exchangeable.

Fees cannot be:

• Transferred to another person

• Applied to another course

• Exchanged for merchandise

• Converted to gift cards, store credit, or account credit

Students should confirm their availability, swimming ability, medical fitness, equipment requirements, and ability to meet the course requirements before registering.

Complimentary Rescheduling

Rescheduling without a fee may be provided when the course cannot safely proceed due to:

• A medical reason, with supporting documentation if requested

• Extreme weather or unsafe water conditions

• Unexpected pool or training facility closure

• Another safety issue determined by Rui Diving Centre or the instructor

Complimentary rescheduling does not create a right to a refund.

Replacement dates depend on instructor, facility, weather, seasonal, and space availability.

$99 + HST Rescheduling Fee

A $99 + HST rescheduling fee applies when:

• Required online theory is not completed on time

• A schedule change is requested within 48 hours of the scheduled session

• The student is late or absent without sufficient notice

• The student cannot attend because of work, transportation, travel, or another non-emergency personal reason

• Required personal equipment is missing or unsuitable

• Required medical, liability, or course documents are incomplete

• Required written medical clearance has not been obtained

A rescheduling fee does not guarantee a particular replacement date and does not extend the original one-year course validity.

Missed training time due to lateness, absence, incomplete preparation, or unsuitable equipment is not automatically replaced.

Important Course Information

Freediving is a skill-based sport, and students progress at different rates.

The included sessions provide structured instruction and evaluation, but completion of the scheduled sessions does not guarantee certification.

The instructor may adjust training content, depth, timing, location, or progression based on student performance, safety, weather, water conditions, facility access, and other operational considerations.

Safety is always the priority.
