Benefits of the Drysuit Course
- Access dive sites that many other divers cannot reach
- Stay warm and dry underwater
- Enjoy a longer diving season
In fact, much of the underwater world is made up of cold-water diving environments, each with its own unique ecosystem. Cold water also often brings clearer visibility, which is one of the reasons why drysuit diving is such a valuable skill. For many divers, learning to use a drysuit is an essential part of their diving journey.
During the course, you will experience how a drysuit differs from a regular wetsuit. A drysuit contains air, so if you are used to diving in a wetsuit and controlling buoyancy mainly with your BCD, you will need to make some adjustments in both technique and mindset.
If you are a beginner, you can even learn drysuit diving together with your Open Water course, so you can build drysuit skills right from the start of your diving journey. Once you are comfortable using a drysuit, you can unlock many more dive destinations, such as:
- Scotland – home to the world-famous Scapa Flow, and one of the best places to dive with unique shark species
- Iceland – where you can dive between two continents
- Antarctica – no explanation needed
- Vancouver – home to seals and amazing cold-water marine life
You can learn how to dive in a drysuit in as little as 1 to 3 days.
What You Will Learn
The PADI Drysuit Diver Specialty Course begins with practice in a pool or pool-like environment. You will learn how to add and release air from the drysuit, adjust buoyancy, and control the air inside the suit.
Once you are ready, you will complete two open water dives with your instructor. Most students finish the Drysuit Diver course within 1 to 3 days.
A Highly Valuable Specialty Course
Without naming names, some specialty courses are fun, but not necessarily 100% essential. The Drysuit Diver course is not one of those.
The PADI Drysuit Diver Specialty Course teaches important foundational safety skills. No one should dive in a drysuit without proper training.
The course also covers basic drysuit care, maintenance, and minor repairs. So whether you are considering buying a drysuit or simply want to find out whether drysuit diving is right for you, the Drysuit Diver course offers excellent value.
