About the Course

The PADI Emergency First Response (EFR) course teaches you the skills and confidence needed to respond to medical emergencies — not just in diving, but in everyday life.
You’ll learn how to provide CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and First Aid, following internationally recognized emergency care guidelines.

This course is open to anyone who wants to learn essential lifesaving skills — divers and non-divers alike. EFR training meets the CPR and First Aid requirements for the PADI Rescue Diver course and all PADI Professional-level training.

What You’ll Learn

During the EFR course, you will learn how to:

  • Respond to life-threatening emergencies

  • Administer CPR and rescue breathing

  • Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Manage injuries and illnesses that are not life-threatening

  • Bandage and splint injuries

  • Conduct a secondary assessment

  • Provide care and comfort to those in need

You’ll practice these skills through realistic scenarios, ensuring you’re ready to act confidently in an emergency situation.

Course Structure

The course includes:

  1. Knowledge Development – Self-study through EFR manual or eLearning

  2. Practical Skill Sessions – Hands-on practice with mannequins and emergency equipment

Prerequisites

  • No minimum age requirement

  • No prior experience required — this course is for everyone

Certification

Upon completion, you’ll earn the EFR Primary and Secondary Care certification, valid for 24 months. Refreshers are recommended every two years to keep your skills current.
