PADI Emergency First Response  

Course Policy

 

1. Course Validity

The EFR Course is valid for one year from the date of registration.

Students must complete all required knowledge development, practical skills training, and course requirements within this one-year period.

Any incomplete portion of the course will expire at the end of this period, and all fees paid are non-refundable.

Students who wish to continue after the course has expired must re-register according to the pricing and requirements in effect at that time.

 

2. Refunds, Transfers, and Exchanges

Once registration and payment have been completed, all course fees are:

• Non-refundable

• Non-transferable to another person

• Not exchangeable for another course

• Not redeemable for products, gift cards, store credit, or account credit

Students are responsible for confirming their availability and ability to complete the course requirements before registering.

 

3. Course Requirements

The EFR Primary & Secondary Care course includes knowledge development and hands-on practice of CPR, first aid, and emergency response skills.

Students are expected to:

• Complete all required course materials and knowledge development

• Participate in all required hands-on training

• Demonstrate the required skills to the instructor

• Follow instructor directions and safety procedures

• Complete any required documentation before training

Completion of the course is based on successfully meeting the applicable EFR training requirements and demonstrating the required skills.

 

4. Equipment

No personal equipment or other equipment is included in the course fee.

Rui Diving Centre provides the training equipment necessary for the instructor-led practical sessions. Students are responsible for bringing any personal items required for their participation in the course.

Any additional equipment or materials required outside the standard course requirements may be subject to additional fees.

 

5. Course Materials And e-learning

Students may complete the knowledge development portion of the EFR course through the applicable EFR learning materials or eLearning before the in-person training session.

Required online learning must be completed before the scheduled practical training when applicable.

If the required preparation has not been completed on time and the student is unable to participate in the scheduled training, the session may need to be rescheduled and the applicable rescheduling fee may apply.

Online-only CPR or first aid training does not replace the required hands-on training for PADI course prerequisites.

 

6. Medical Statement and Physician’s Clearance

Students are responsible for informing the instructor of any medical condition, injury, or physical limitation that may affect their ability to safely participate in the course.

The instructor may request additional information or medical clearance when reasonably required for safe participation.

Students must notify the instructor of any relevant change in their physical condition before or during the course.

 

7. Confirmed Course Dates

Once course dates have been confirmed, they generally cannot be changed without applicable rescheduling fees.

Students should review their work, school, travel, transportation, and personal schedules before confirming their course dates.

Instructor time, training equipment, and course spaces are reserved specifically for the student. Therefore, approval of a rescheduling request is not guaranteed.

 

8. Complimentary Rescheduling

A course may be rescheduled without a fee under the following circumstances:

• The student is unable to participate safely due to a medical condition and provides supporting documentation when requested

• Rui Diving Centre or the instructor determines that the training cannot safely proceed

• The training facility unexpectedly closes

• Another safety-related circumstance prevents the scheduled course from proceeding

Complimentary rescheduling does not create a right to a refund.

The replacement date will depend on instructor availability, facility availability, and available course spaces.

9. Rescheduling Fee

A $99 + HST rescheduling fee applies in situations including:

• The student requests a schedule change within 48 hours of the scheduled session

• The student is late or absent without sufficient notice

• The student cannot attend because of work, transportation, travel, or other non-emergency personal reasons

• Required course preparation or documents are incomplete

• Required medical clearance has not been obtained

• The student is otherwise unable to participate in the scheduled session for reasons within their control

Payment of the rescheduling fee does not guarantee a specific replacement date.

All replacement dates are subject to instructor, facility, and course-space availability.

The rescheduling fee does not extend the original one-year course validity.

 

10. Late Arrival And Absence

Students must arrive at the designated training location at the scheduled time.

Late arrival may affect the instructor's ability to complete the required training and may require the session to be rescheduled.

If a student arrives too late to safely or effectively participate, the instructor may refuse participation for that session and the applicable rescheduling fee may apply.

Failure to attend without sufficient notice will be treated as a missed session.

 

11. Training And Completion

EFR training is skills-based and requires students to participate in hands-on practice and demonstrate the required emergency response skills.

The instructor may require a student to repeat or practice a skill until the required performance standard has been demonstrated.

Completion of the scheduled training time does not automatically guarantee course completion.

The instructor will determine whether the student has successfully demonstrated the required skills in accordance with applicable EFR standards.

 

12. Instructor’s Safety And Training Decisions

Safety is always the primary consideration.

The instructor may determine whether a student can safely participate in or continue a training session based on:

• Physical condition

• Ability to perform the required skills

• Course preparation

• Equipment or training conditions

• Student readiness

• Any other relevant safety consideration

The instructor may stop, modify, postpone, or reschedule training when necessary to maintain a safe learning environment.

 

13. Certification And Course Completion

Upon successful completion of the required EFR Primary & Secondary Care training, the student will receive the applicable EFR course completion certification in accordance with EFR procedures.

EFR certification does not replace any additional certification, medical qualification, or training that may be required by another organization, employer, workplace, or professional program.

For students taking EFR as a prerequisite for a PADI Rescue Diver, Divemaster, or Instructor-level course, the applicable PADI prerequisite requirements must also be met.

EFR Primary & Secondary Care training used as a PADI prerequisite must be current within the applicable 24-month period.

 

14. Student Responsibilities

Students are expected to:

• Complete all required course preparation

• Arrive on time

• Bring any required personal items

• Follow instructor directions

• Participate actively in hands-on training

• Follow applicable safety procedures

• Inform the instructor of any relevant medical or physical concerns

• Communicate openly if they are unable to safely perform a required skill

• Maintain a respectful and responsible attitude throughout the course

 

15. Acceptance of Policy

By registering for or paying for the EFR Course, the student confirms that they have read, understood, and accepted this policy.

The student confirms that they understand:

• The course validity period

• The refund and transfer policy

• The course preparation requirements

• The rescheduling policy

• The requirement for hands-on training

• That completion of scheduled training does not automatically guarantee certification

• That the instructor has final authority regarding safety and training decisions

Rui Diving Centre reserves the right to reasonably update its course schedules, fees, and related policies.

The policy accepted by the student at the time of registration will apply to their course, subject to applicable law and EFR/PADI standards.
