PADI Discovery Scuba Diving 

Course Policy

1. Course Validity

The PADI Discovery Scuba Diving Course is valid for one year from the date of registration.

If a participant does not complete the scheduled training within the applicable period, any incomplete portion of the course may expire and fees already paid are non-refundable.

2. Refunds, Transfers, and Exchanges

Once registration and payment have been completed, all course fees are:

• Non-refundable;
• Non-transferable to another person;
• Not exchangeable for another course;
• Not redeemable for products, gift cards, store credit, or account credit.
• Students are responsible for confirming their availability, physical condition, and ability to meet the course requirements before registering.

3. Prerequisites

No previous scuba certification or diving experience is required to participate in a PADI Discovery Scuba Diving experience.

Participants must:

• Meet the applicable minimum age requirement
• Be medically and physically fit to participate in scuba diving activities
• Be comfortable performing basic scuba diving skills
• Complete any required medical documentation or clearance before training when applicable
• Follow all instructor directions and safety procedures

Participants must disclose any medical condition, injury, medication, or physical limitation that may affect their ability to safely participate in the activity.

4. Equipment Included

Required scuba equipment for the DSD experience is included in the course fee.

Rui Diving Centre will provide the equipment required for the scheduled training, including:

• BCD
• Regulator system
• Scuba tank
• Weights and weight system
• Mask
• Fins
• Exposure protection appropriate for the environment and water temperature
• Other equipment required for the DSD experience

Participants must visit Rui Diving Centre in advance to try on and confirm the appropriate size and fit of the equipment before the scheduled pool session.

5. Equipment and Transportation

If rental equipment is required, students are responsible for confirming rental requirements and availability before their scheduled training. 

Students are responsible for:

• Picking up rental equipment from Rui Diving Centre during office hours
• Transporting rental equipment to and from the training location
• Loading and unloading equipment
• Properly handling and caring for equipment during use
• Returning rental equipment to Rui Diving Centre as instructed

The course fee does not include equipment delivery, pickup, transportation, or handling services.

Students are responsible for the safekeeping of their personal and rented equipment while it is in their possession.

Rui Diving Centre is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to personal equipment.

Late returns, loss, damage, or misuse of rental equipment may result in additional charges.

6. Course Format

The PADI Discovery Scuba Diving (DSD) experience includes an in-person theory session followed by confined-water pool training.

Participants will first complete the required knowledge and safety briefing at Rui Diving Centre before participating in the pool session.

The pool session provides an opportunity to become familiar with scuba equipment and experience basic scuba diving skills under direct instructor supervision.

The exact training schedule and pool location will be confirmed at the time of booking.

7. Confirmed Course Dates

Once course dates have been confirmed, they generally cannot be changed without applicable rescheduling fees.

Students should review their work, school, travel, transportation, and personal schedules before confirming their course dates.

Instructor time, training facilities, dive sites, boats, and other resources may be reserved specifically for the student. Therefore, approval of a rescheduling request is not guaranteed.

8. Complimentary Rescheduling

A course may be rescheduled without a fee under the following circumstances:

• The student is unable to participate safely due to a medical condition and provides supporting documentation when requested
• Extreme weather or unsafe water conditions prevent the course from proceeding
• The training facility, dive site, or boat operator unexpectedly closes or cancels
• Rui Diving Centre or the instructor determines that another safety-related issue prevents the course from proceeding

Complimentary rescheduling does not create a right to a refund.

The replacement date will depend on instructor availability, dive-site or boat availability, weather, seasonal conditions, and available course spaces.

9. Rescheduling Fee

A $99 + HST rescheduling fee applies in situations including:

• The student requests a schedule change within 48 hours of the scheduled session
• The student is late or absent without sufficient notice
• The student cannot attend because of work, transportation, travel, or other non-emergency personal reasons
• Required course documents are incomplete
• Required medical clearance has not been obtained
• Required personal equipment is missing, unsuitable, or not functioning properly
• Required rental equipment has not been arranged or is unavailable for the scheduled training
• The student is otherwise unable to participate in the scheduled session for reasons within their control

Payment of the rescheduling fee does not guarantee a specific replacement date.

All replacement dates are subject to instructor, dive-site, boat, weather, equipment, and course-space availability.

The rescheduling fee does not extend the original one-year course validity.

10. Late Arrival and Absence

Students must arrive at the designated training location at the scheduled time and allow sufficient time to prepare their equipment.

Late arrival may affect the instructor's ability to complete the required training and may require the session to be rescheduled.

If a student arrives too late to safely or effectively participate, the instructor may refuse participation for that session and the applicable rescheduling fee may apply.

Failure to attend without sufficient notice will be treated as a missed session.

11. Medical and Physical Requirements

Students are responsible for informing the instructor of any medical condition, injury, or physical limitation that may affect their ability to safely participate in the course.

Students must be medically and physically capable of participating in deeper scuba diving activities.

If medical clearance is required, students must provide the appropriate written clearance before participating in the affected training.

Students must inform the instructor of any relevant change in their physical condition before or during the course.

12. Training Environment and Conditions

The DSD experience is conducted in confined water at a swimming pool.

Training is subject to appropriate facility conditions, pool availability, and participant readiness.

For safety reasons, the instructor may modify, postpone, or reschedule the pool session when conditions are not suitable.

13. Course Progression and Additional Training

The DSD experience is conducted under the direct supervision of a qualified instructor.

Participants must demonstrate the required basic skills and follow instructor directions before progressing through the experience.

If additional training or practice is required beyond the scheduled DSD experience, it is not included in the original course fee unless specifically stated.

Any additional training will be discussed with the participant before being scheduled.

14. Safety and Instructor Decisions

Participant safety is always the primary consideration.

The instructor may determine whether a participant can safely enter the water, continue the activity, or complete a particular skill based on:

• Physical condition
• Comfort level in water
• Skill performance
• Equipment fit and condition
• Participant readiness
• Pool conditions
• Any other relevant safety consideration

The instructor may stop, modify, postpone, or reschedule a dive when necessary to maintain a safe learning environment.

Students must follow all instructor directions and applicable diving safety procedures.

15. DSD Experience and Certification

The PADI Discovery Scuba Diving experience is an introductory scuba diving experience and is not a scuba certification course.

Participation in the DSD experience does not result in an Open Water Diver certification.

Completion of the scheduled experience does not guarantee progression to or certification in another PADI course.

Participants who wish to continue their scuba diving education may discuss available certification options with Rui Diving Centre after completing the DSD experience.

16. Acceptance of Policy

By registering for or paying for the Rui Diving Centre PADI Discovery Scuba Diving Course, the student confirms that they have read, understood, and accepted this course policy.

Rui Diving Centre reserves the right to reasonably update its course schedules, fees, and related policies.

The policy accepted by the student at the time of registration will apply to the course, subject to applicable law and applicable PADI standards.
